Blogging and Social Media
ManagerAs manager of Living Beyond Breast Cancer's blog, I seek out interesting stories that highlight individual people's breast cancer journeys and help readers feel less alone. Named one of Healthline's "19 Best Breast Cancer Blogs of 2016," the LBBC blog has featured the stories of dozens of people affected by breast cancer, including LBBC volunteers like Felicia Johnson talking about what volunteering for LBBC means to them, and women like Jocelyn Mader, who shared her story of pregnancy after breast cancer.
As the Centre Foundation's social media manager, I used social media outlets, primarily Facebook and Twitter, to promote the foundation and keep people aware of its activities, always keeping an eye out for news items, facts and community events that would inform and interest the foundation's followers. |
I used the foundation's blog, which I created, to promote local nonprofit events, get the word out about needs in the community and to profile organizations that the foundation gave grants to.
As a result, the foundation saw a large increase in social media engagement - for example, there were more than eight times as many 'likes' on the foundation's Facebook page when I left as there were when I took the reins in April 2011.
The foundation's entrance into the world of social media was lauded by many local nonprofit administrators, who appreciated the cross-marketing that social media made possible.

Study Abroad BloggerWhile studying abroad in St. Petersburg, Russia, in the fall of 2010, I contributed to the Collegian's Small World blog, writing about everything from the experience of living with a host family to whom I could barely speak, to the beauty of the palaces that lined Nevsky Prospekt, to a vacation in Egypt, where riding a camel was just one of the strange and exciting experiences I had.

Conference Call: Day 2 of the National Autism Conference - Transition Conference Call: Day 4 of the National Autism Conference - Support In 2011 I contributed a post to the Council on Foundations' blog, RE: Philanthropy, about the importance of instilling a love for community in an area's residents. |
