Medical Writing and Editing
Knowledge is power. But often, medical jargon keeps people from understanding everything they should about their bodies. That's why good medical writing and editing is essential. When I read a long clinical trial write-up or an essay full of $10 medical terms, and then summarize that information into something someone without a medical background can understand, I feel good knowing I'm giving them the tools to make informed decisions about their health.
Living Beyond Breast Cancer Guides![]() Living Beyond Breast Cancer has published
more than a dozen guides about different aspects of breast cancer. The guides address different stages and subtypes of the disease, emotional and financial concerns, clinical trials, genetics, and more. I edit and update existing guides that are due to be reprinted. I also pitch, research write and edit new guides, such as the two titles pictured at right. In writing and updating LBBC's guides I work closely with expert reviewers, many of whom are at the very top of their field. I talk to people who have been affected by breast cancer, always making sure to sensitively, compassionately help them share their story with the world. Many people who have had breast cancer tell us how helpful it is to have our guides when they most need accurate information and emotional support. |
InsightInsight is a quarterly publication that contains important educational information about medical, psychosocial and financial aspects of breast cancer treatment. It also updates our constituents about LBBC news and upcoming programs. It's mailed out to more than 40,000 people across the country.
I manage all aspects of Insight, from coming up with story ideas, to assigning them to staff members and freelancers, as well as writing some of them myself. I also edit the stories for style, accuracy and clarity, oversee the design and approve the final drafts for printing. |

Reporting From Medical Conferences

As a representative of Living Beyond Breast Cancer, I sometimes travel to major medical conferences across the United States to learn about new research straight from the oncologists doing that research. I then write about that research so LBBC's constituents have access to the most up-to-date breast cancer information.
I reported from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting in 2015, and from the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) in 2015 and 2016.
